March Planned by Mexico City Market Vendors Over Digitalization

Market vendors in Mexico City are set to hold a massive march in March protesting recent digitalization measures imposed by the local government. This mobilization follows a discontent expressed in a recent assembly over unmet agreements with the economic development secretariat. Vendors demand a prior census to properly address their specific needs before these changes are implemented.

March Planned by Mexico City Market Vendors Over Digitalization

Market vendors in Mexico City announced a new megamarch in March due to their discontent with the recent digitalization guidelines established by the city government. The mobilization arises from an assembly at the Mercado 1 de Diciembre, where they expressed their dissatisfaction with the non-fulfillment of previous agreements with the Secretary of Economic Development (Sedeco).

The vendors oppose the new guidelines that seek to digitalize procedures such as the issuance of registration cards, annual renewals, changes in business type, and permits for commercial activities in fairs. They demand a prior census to identify the owners and their needs before implementing these measures.

The march is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 4, and will head towards the Secretary of the Interior in the Zócalo of Mexico City. Although specific times and routes have not been defined, it is expected that the main roads towards the Historic Center may be affected, including Anillo Periférico Oriente, Avenida Tláhuac, Anillo Periférico Sur, among others.

The vendors assure that their goal is not to hinder the mobility of the city but to defend their rights and assets. On social media, they apologized for any potential traffic complications and the logistics of the march will be decided in upcoming meetings of the vendor associations.
